Backup, Install, and Rollback Firmware on the Axe-Fx II

Tempted to install the latest Firmware or Public Beta, but not sure what to do if you don’t like it? In this video, I show you how to use Fractal-Bot to Backup your current settings, Install the latest Firmware, and Rollback to previous Firmware and settings you saved from the Backup. The most important step always is to BACKUP using the Receive tab in Fractal-Bot. Without a backup, you can never return to an older version. Also be sure to quit Axe-Edit when using Fractal-Bot. I also briefly mention how to “refresh block definitions” in Axe-Edit – an important...

Creating discreet Stereo Outputs to Delay only one side – Axe-Fx II

The Axe-Fx by default operates with true stereo outputs. Most of the blocks and effects are true stereo without having to change any settings. But there are some instances where we want specific control over the Left and Right signals, such as delaying one side by a few milliseconds to create a wide sound when using 2 speakers for true stereo.* In order to do this, we need to arrange a few things in the Layout. The key to getting the specific separation of the Left and Right outputs are the 2 Volume blocks at the end of the...

LFO Bypass Reset – New Parameter, Quick Video

Firmware 18.06 brought a new parameter to the Flanger and Phaser blocks: LFO Bypass Reset.  An “LFO” is the mechanism responsible for the sound “sweeping” through the range you set in a flanger or phaser effect. So it may start on the low end of the sweep, in the middle, or...

USB Playback is very quiet or silent after updating Firmware to 18.01 or higher

Firmware 18.01 introduced a new parameter in the I/O-Audio menu on the Front Panel of the Axe-Fx II. It is called the “USB Return Level” and controls the sound returning from the computer to the Axe-Fx when using the Axe-Fx as a USB Audio Interface.  This sound could be iTunes, Spotify, your DAW like Cubase or Pro Tools, and even regular computer notification sounds. If your firmware is anything before FW18.01, when you update to anything FW18.01 or higher, this new parameter will be set to a very low value of -60 dB and must be manually changed.  With the...

How to Update Firmware on the MFC-101

In this video I show how to update the firmware on an MFC-101. I currently don’t own an MFC-101, so I used older footage and added some new information. You may see some old information, such as the lack of FASlink mode or showing an update to FW2.15 when the current version is 3.07. However, all procedures are current and this is the recommended way to update by Fractal Audio. You’ll need the latest MFC-101 Firmware, Fractal-Bot, and the USB drivers. All of these files are available on my Latest Info page:...
